Our Minister – Rev Hazel Shaw

Hello friends,
As I write, I am looking forward to my summer holiday – a week in late August in a caravan overlooking the sea with hopefully some sunshine. I am reminded of the importance of taking time to pause, rest and give thanks for God’s love and faithfulness in our daily lives. God remains constant whether we are working or resting, caring or being cared for, but sometimes we need to stop and notice. So, I hope that for each and everyone of you, you have had or will take some time to recharge and to enjoy and give thanks for God’s presence in your life.
Our church community here at St George’s continues to be a source of encouragement and friendship, and I am grateful for the many ways that members contribute through worship, service, and acts of kindness. I am delighted that Mary and Lorraine have successfully completed their Worship Leader training and will receive their certificates from Presbytery.
Our congregation is also blessed with the recent increased opportunities for prayer – our monthly prayer diary and weekly prayer walks complementing our monthly prayer group.
I am delighted that there is much to read in this latest edition showing some of the many ways we can serve in our congregation and wider community. Our summer holiday club has seen us reach out to over 100 young lives, we continue our support of our friends from overseas, our pastoral care includes care homes services and home visits with communion. Friendship is extended in many of our weekly activities – something for all ages. Check out our What’s On.
It has been a joy to welcome new members and wonderful to baptise children into our growing congregation where we have tiny infants and centenarians. It was wonderful celebrating the July birthdays of Anne who turned 103 years young and Douglas a youthful 101. Our mission is “To promote God’s word and to welcome and support all” and there are many opportunities to do so in worship and in service and I encourage you to get involved as much as you can – I know you will be greatly blessed and be a real blessing to others.
As we look ahead, let’s continue to care for one another, welcome newcomers, and share Christ’s love in both word and action.
